How to configure a receipt printer?

Step-by-step guide to configure your thermal printer in Windows for use with Krae.Os.

How to configure a receipt printer?

For Krae.Os to print sales tickets and receipts, it is necessary to configure your thermal printer in Windows using a generic driver. This ensures maximum compatibility and speed.

Step 1: Connect the printer

Make sure your printer is turned on and connected to your computer via the USB cable.

[!IMPORTANT] Recommendation for stability: Always connect the printer to the same USB port on your computer. If you change ports, Windows may create a copy of the printer and it may stop working correctly.

Step 2: Add the printer in Windows

Follow these steps according to your version of Windows:

In Windows 10 and 11

  1. Press the Windows key and type “Printers & scanners”, then press Enter.
  2. Click Add device (or “Add a printer or scanner”).
  3. Wait a few seconds until the manual setup link appears:
    • In Windows 10: Click “The printer that I want isn’t listed”.
    • In Windows 11: Click “Add manually”.
  4. Select the last option: “Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings” and click Next.
  5. Select “Use an existing port”. In the list, look for a port named USB001, USB002, etc. Select the highest available number that seems to correspond to your USB printer and click Next.

Step 3: Select the Driver

In the driver selection window:

  1. In the left column (Manufacturer), select Generic.
  2. In the right column (Printers), select Generic / Text Only.
  3. Click Next.
  4. If it asks if you want to use the currently installed driver, select “Use the driver that is currently installed” and click Next.

Step 4: Printer Name

  1. Assign a name that is easy to identify, for example: Receipt Printer.
  2. Click Next until the process is finished. It is not necessary to share the printer.

Step 5: Final Configuration in Krae.Os

Once the printer is installed in Windows, the Krae.Os system will take care of everything else:

  • Don’t worry about the character set or line breaks.
  • Krae.Os will automatically send the paper cut commands at the end of the ticket.

If you have trouble printing, check that the USB port selected in Step 2 is correct.
